Bible Verses on Healing (Free Printable)

Prayers for Healing

The Bible contains a lot of verses about healing. And it clearly instructs those who are sick to pray for health to be restored in passages such as this:

“Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.”

James 5:14-15

This is something my husband and I have done throughout our nearly 40 years of marriage. Sometimes the LORD grants our requests. Sometimes He gives grace so that we are better able to bear up under the infirmity.

The latter is what happened when our firstborn was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 22 months. We called for the elders and prayed over him, but the diabetes didn’t go away. However, our son has, thus far, been spared many of the devastating side effects that often accompany that disease. He’s been insulin-dependent for over 36 years now, but other than the blood tests and shots required to manage his blood sugars, he’s lived an otherwise healthy life — so much so that most people do not even realize he is diabetic. (Ditto for his two brothers who were diagnosed years later.)

The former is what happened when I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2024. My family laid hands on me and prayed. My husband called our pastor to do the same. Family and friends from all across the globe faithfully lifted me up before the LORD.

And He graciously answered all those prayers.

  • He’s given me a peace that passes understanding, even in the early days of my diagnosis.
  • He directed my research as I made decisions concerning my treatment.
  • He guided the hands of my surgeon, who removed the tumor and eight lymph nodes, all with clear margins.
  • He granted me favor with my oncologist, who has kept me on as a patient despite the fact I opted against doing any chemo, radiation, or hormone blockade for now.
  • He’s kept me cancer free through all my follow-up exams, tests, and monitoring
  • He’s provided wonderful verses in His Word that underscore His sovereignty — even over sickness and disease.

Verses like Jeremiah 33:6, “Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” And Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” And Psalm 30:2, “O LORD my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.” And all the other great prayers and verses listed on these free Bible memory cards below:

A couple of weeks ago, I posted the following update on my Instagram account:

Just got the results of my follow-up mammogram back. All clear! No sign of remaining or recurrent malignancy. Thank you, Jesus! 🙌

One reader immediately counttered, “Thank you, modern medicine”

So I elaborated further:

“Yes! As the wife of a physician and the mother of three sons with Type 1 diabetes, I am very grateful for modern medicine. But I’m also keenly aware of the fact it is God who heals, whether He uses modern medicine or lifestyle change or “spontaneous remission” — or a combination of all three — to do it. So I will continue to thank my doctors while giving my Maker all the glory for the good health I’m enjoying today! 🙌

In the weeks and months and years following my diagnosis, I’ve heard from countless readers who are cancer survivors themselves or are currently facing such a diagnosis. Perhaps you are among them.

If so, let me encourage you that you don’t have to face it alone. Our God is a God who heals! So pray that He will. And ask Him for wisdom as you weigh all your options and decide on a treatment plan that is just right for you in your unique circumstances. He has promised to give generously to all who ask (see James 1:5).
