Christmas Party GamesOur entire family loves Christmas and parties and games — and Christmas party games. In this post series, I’m sharing a dozen of our favorites:

It’s best if you spring today’s activity on your friends and family unaware.

We make it easy with these handy labels. Just stick one unobtrusively to the bottom of every dinner or plate before guests arrive, then when it is time to eat, let folks go through the buffet line without drawing attention to that hidden surprise.

Once everybody’s plate is full (but before they finish eating and start throwing disposable plates in the trash), announce that you’ll be having a “Twelve Days of Christmas” sing-a-long after dinner and that they’ll need to check underneath their plate to learn what part they’ve been assigned.

When it’s time to sing, each guest stands up long enough to sing only the line printed on his/her plate. The first time we every played this game at a party, we were the unsuspecting guests, and Doug wound up with “a partridge in a pear tree” and had to sing it solo for all twelve verses. That was really funny!

Things can get a little mixed up, especially when you’re dealing with a large crowd, but it’s always great fun and draws a lot of laughs every year we’ve done this.

So get your friends together… and sing your hearts out! And if you love Christmas games as much as we do, give one of our other Christmas games a try (or visit my Christmas Party Games Pinterest Board for even more fun ideas.

Doug had to fly home for a meeting in the middle o Doug had to fly home for a meeting in the middle of our vacation, which meant the kids and I spent a full day sightseeing alone in New York City. We left the car parked in the garage and took bikes and ferries to see the sights — which worked great until Rachel’s phone ran out of battery miles from our hotel, leaving (one of ) us stranded without a bike when it was time to head back to our hotel, since she could no longer scan the code to unlock it. So… after reviewing directions with the kids (stick together, stay on the bike path next to the Hudson River until you reach 28th Street, then dock the bikes and walk the rest of the way), I sent them on without me and called an Uber. 🙏🏻 Thanks to traffic conditions during rush hour in Manhattan, it took over half an hour for any of us to make it to midtown, but we still managed to arrive within 5 minutes of each other (much to my relief, as the longer we were separated, the more strongly I was doubting my decision). 😳 #flandersfamilytravels #citibike #newyorknewyork

Dancing the Virginia Reel while in Virginia was Ga Dancing the Virginia Reel while in Virginia was Gabriel’s idea. He wanted his friend Simon to know he can make dancing reels, too. Ha! And if there’s one thing (among many) that I’ve learned from my friend Abbie @m.is.for.mama , it’s that when your son asks to dance, you dance. So, ignoring rain and puzzled passers-by, that’s exactly what we did. #flandersfamilytravels #virginareel #colonialwilliamsburg
