Today’s Nesting and Singing Coloring Page is a celebration of springtime. Don’t you love hearing the birds chirp cheerfully in the morning and watching them build their nests this time of year? I sure do!
This coloring page features the words of Psalm 104:12, which reads: “The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.”
All that talk of nesting brings to mind the fact that we’re expecting our 20th grandbaby this spring. Grandbabies 16, 17. 18, and 19 joined us last year. So there’s been lots of nesting going on in our family’s various households lately!
Meanwhile, my own nest is growing steadily emptier. Our #10 will graduate in May. But he’s been taking lots of dual credit classes at our local junior college during his senior year, so for all practical purposes, I have only two left to homeschool. Only two who are still able to travel with us off season. And after #11 graduates next year, I’ll be down to one!
The Lord knows how grateful I am for the privilege of raising my brood of 12 precious babies, and how dreadfully I’m going to miss them once they’ve all fledged and flown! I’ve been keeping an empty nest list for years, full of new challenges, lofty goals, and other ideas to distract me once my child-rearing years are completely behind me.
In the meantime, there are plenty of reasons to sing, whether our nest is lonely and bare or crowded to capacity with eggs to warm, mouths to feed, and feathers to preen. One song that has often been on my lips lately is the beloved old hymn, “Take My Life, Lord.”
In it the songwriter (Frances Ridley Havergal) yields every part of herself, her time, and her possessions to God, to be used for His glory. It’s a wonderful reminder for believers — in any season of life — who may be in need of a new sense of purpose:
Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.
