March 15th is the birthday of Andrew Jackson, our seventh president. So in honor of “Old Hickory,” I’m sharing this new Worth His Salt Coloring Page. based on one of his quotes we’d all do well to remember:
“Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.”
Sadly, in the age of cancel culture and ad hominem attacks, it isn’t always easy to stand up for what you believe is right, much less admit mistakes. Many opt to just keep their mouths shut. Not draw any attention to themselves or their opinions. Avoid giving voice their convictions at all.
Yet “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7) So let’s discipline ourselves to proclaim our beliefs boldly and to always and only speak the truth in love.
