June 6 is Nathan Hale’s birthday, which makes this the perfect time to share my “One Life to Lose” coloring page. It features Hale’s famous last words, “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”
Did you know that Hale was only 21 years old when General George Washington sent him behind enemy lines on an information-gathering mission? Unfortunately, he was captured by the British in New York and hanged as a spy on September 22, 1776.
Yet Hale so believed in the American cause that he stated boldly he would gladly die for it again if given the chance. What a wonderful example of devotion he set for his fellow patriots!
