Our family visited some citrus groves earlier this year. From a distance, it was difficult for us to tell one kind of tree from another, but once we got closer, it was simple to differentiate the lime trees from the lemon and the lemon trees from the orange. They were known by their fruit. All we had to do is look at what was growing on their branches!
In the same way, the Bible tells us there’s some very specific fruit that should be evident in the life of every believer. It is the fruit of the Spirit, and includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Such things might be difficult to discern from a distance, but we must ask ourselves: “When people draw near to me for closer inspection, are these the qualities they find in my life?” If I name the name of Christ, they certainly should be.
That’s the take-home lesson for this week’s coloring page:
“By their fruit, ye shall know them.” (Matthew 7:16)
