Hide and Goat Seek: A Great Game for Littles

A few of my grandkids paid me a visit this afternoon. The oldest takes piano lessons at my house on Thursdays, and his younger siblings were acting a little bored today, so I taught them how to play Hide and Goat Seek.

Timberdoodle sent me a review copy of this logic game over the summer, but today’s the first time these grands played. They loved it!

Hide and Goat Seek

Hide and Goat Seek is actually a one-player game designed to stimulate critical thinking skills in ages 3-7. But both big sister and her little brother are in that age range and were more than happy to take turns.

The spiral bound booklet included in Hide and Goat Seek features 48 challenges which gradually get harder as you work your way through the book. He’d do one, then she’d do the next.

You begin by arranging the wolf, goats, and furniture on the game board as pictured in each new challenge, then fit in the other furniture pieces so that every goat is hidden.

But be careful! The goats come with different shaped bases which keep them from fitting under every piece of furniture.

You have to use your spatial reasoning skills to figure out how to conceal every goat on the board. Big sister was good about giving hints to brother when a particular challenge stumped him momentarily.

Instead of just telling him which piece to use, she pointed out the base shapes and encouraged him to look at the bottom of the furniture tiles for whichever one matched the same shape.

Brother caught on quickly and didn’t remain stumped for long! The game also includes a wordless storybook, for even more cognitive exercise and creative play.

Do you have any little ones who’d enjoy Hide and Goat Seek? This game is now available for individual purchase, but it is also included in Timberdoodle’s 2026 Preschool Curriculum Kit.
