These verses read: “All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.”
I recently saw a video about the persecuted church. A woman in Africa watched as her village was burned and her family and friends were murdered. When she later returned to the shell of her home, she found her beloved Bible buried in the ashes. Parts of Genesis and Revelation were too charred to read, but the rest of it was still legible. She praised God for His goodness in preserving it for her.
She carries that precious token of His goodness and love with her everywhere. She knows firsthand how life-giving its words are. Not only is it good for teaching, rebuke, correction, and training, but it also is one of the most direct evidences we have of God’s great love for us — a love that send Jesus to the cross to die in our place.
Shouldn’t we treasure God’s Word every bit as much as that poor surviving widow does? Shouldn’t we read it faithfully, ponder its message, memorize pertinent passages, and meditate on it day and night?
