Psalm 33:12 reads, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” And that is the theme of this week’s Blessed Nation coloring page.
For more than two centuries, America has enjoyed that blessed nation status. But more and more citizens of this great country have grown more and more callous to the LORD. As a result, we are seeing those blessings steadily slip away.
Ronald Reagan warned us this would happen. As he famously observed, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
The framers of our Constitution understood the dangers, too. John Adams explained: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
Yet, here we find ourselves. Many of our elected representatives seem bent on dismantling the Constitution. They want to fundamentally and forever change our nation’s form of government from what our founding fathers intended. God, have mercy on us all if they succeed.
Even so, all is not lost. God promises in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
That is my earnest prayer. That America would individually and collectively turn from our sin and call upon the name of the LORD. That God would grant us another great awakening and send a revival sweeping across the continent.
Won’t you join me in this prayer? Don’t despair when you see the chaos around you. God is still on His thrown, and nothing is too difficult for Him. Besides, even hardships are blessing when they serve to turn our hearts back to Him.
