Weary and Heavy Laden Coloring Page

A couple of weeks ago, I completed a half-marathon with several family members. By mile 12, I was feeling so weary and heavy laden, I wasn’t at all sure I could continue.

But with my daughter cheering me on every step of the way, and my husband and son circling back with fresh water bottles and cold orange juice and heartfelt words of encouragement, I slowly, slowly inched my way to the finish line.

As soon as I crossed over, I collapsed under the nearest tree. Mmmm-mmm! What a relief it was to kick off my shoes, peel off my socks, and stretch out on the grassy ground.

That bone-crushing, soul-sucking, can’t-continue-much-longer kind of weariness is what I think about whenever I read Matthew 11:28.

Only the rest Jesus offers is so much longer lasting and more satisfying than a few minutes of catching one’s breath in the shade of a tree.

For He continues, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Not only does Christ offer a momentary break from our labors. He offers us a new yoke entirely — one that is easy and light rather than heavy and hard. Primarily because He’s already accomplished the work we could never do for ourselves.
