WOW: Are You a Burden Bearer?

Our family has been doing some belated “spring cleaning” lately: moving furniture, steaming carpets, painting walls, touching up trim, etc. It’s kept us busy for several weeks already, and we’re not even halfway finished with our to-do list!

It has required a lot of teamwork and a lot of heavy lifting.

Some things, like desk chairs and table lamps, are one-man jobs. But others, like the massive king size bed we had to move yesterday, are way too heavy for one person to lift by themselves. Such tasks make me thankful to have a houseful of cheerful helpers.

Thankfully, we don’t have to lug those heavy burdens very far. We just move them out so the room can be thoroughly cleaned, steamed, and/or painted, then we carry them back and put them down where they go.

Just as I’ve asked my children to help carry these loads, our Heavenly Father asks us to help shoulder one another’s burdens. We can find those instructions in Galatians 6:2:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Sometimes our brothers and sisters are saddled with burdens to heavy for them to carry alone. God expects us to render aid.

Maybe it will be for a short distance. Perhaps we can help them carry their burden to the foot of the cross to set it down where it belongs.

Some of our friends carry loads they won’t be able to cast off this side of heaven, but our willingness to come alongside to help with the lifting can lighten the journey for them.

This week’s verse can be found in the sixth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:

Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first five sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:

And I’ve also uploaded a progress chart to help you keep track of which verses your child has already memorized (some of the verses listed are from sets of flashcards that will be published in the future).

May God honor your efforts to hide His Word in your heart!
