IQ Circle (A Timberdoodle Review)

My grandson helped me try out a new product from Timberdoodle this week. It’s a new Smart Game called IQ Circle.

It’s a single player game intended to strengthen analytical and observational skills. And it immediately became apparent that our skill could use such sharpening!

That’s because it took us several tries before we realized Grandma set up the first challenge incorrectly!

One of the rules is that the largest spheres on the game pieces cannot straddle and of the ribs that are positioned — NOT evenly, as it turns out! — around the edge of the circular game board.

Once we realized our mistake, the starter challenges were a piece of cake. So my grandson tried out some of the higher level challenges.

IQ Circle contains 120 challenges in all, arranged in increasingly more difficult levels of play. The orientation of the ribs on the game board are provided for all but the highest “wizard” level.

Theoretically, there is only one way of solving each puzzle, although we discovered an entirely valid solution for one puzzle that did not match the key. So I would argue that is more than one solution to at least one of the puzzles.

The rules of play are simple: Start with select pieces positioned as illustrated in the puzzle book, then do your best to fit in all the remaining pieces without letting any single piece cross over a rib line.

But be careful! It isn’t as easy as it looks, especially as you get into upper-level puzzles. Want to try your hand at solving IQ Circle? Check it out at Timbedoodle. It makes a thoughtful gift for anybody who enjoys puzzles, is portable enough to play on the road, and gives kids a great mental work-out, away from screens!

And while you’re on the Timberdoodle website, I’d encourage you to look around. We love everything we’ve ever ordered from this small family-owned company!
