Eric’s Greatest Race Review

Our local public library sponsors a summer reading program for both children and adults, and one of the activities on this year’s bingo card is reading a graphic novel. Eric’s Greatest Race is the one I picked.

What’s more, I read it aloud to three of my grandkids. Eric’s Greatest Race tells “the inspiring, true story of Eric Liddell, athlete, missionary, prisoner.”

You may already be familiar with Liddell’s life history from the much-loved movie, Chariots of Fire. That is where I first heard of him.

But Eric’s Greatest Race offers many details of the olympian’s life I didn’t remember from the movie, communicated in an easy-to-read format with lots of great illustrations.

It’s a great book for avid bookworms and reluctant readers alike. I’ve known several boys whose present love for reading was first ignited by graphic novels.

And this particular graphic novel was engaging enough that I enjoyed reading it every bit as much as the kids!
