Practice Record for Any Musical Instrument

Music Practice Record

My inbox is overflowing again with questions, podcast suggestions, and ideas for new printables, so I’m devoting my Mondays to help clean it out, starting with a reader request for a new music practice record that can be used for any instrument.

Question: What about people who don’t play the piano?

A long-time blog reader named Katie writes:

Hi, Jennifer.

Thank you for the piano practice sheet!  I printed one for myself because I just started piano lessons online at Voetberg Music Academy last week.  I can’t wait to start checking off whole notes!  When my repertoire expands I think I’ll switch to Ms. Judy’s practice sheet.

Would you please consider adapting the two piano practice sheets for other common instruments like violin and guitar?  And/or a generic music practice sheet that would work for any kind of music lessons?

I really like Ms. Judy’s method of requiring less.  We have a similar method w/ our kids’ music practice, and they all play for pleasure, too!

Thank you again for your free printables!

Well, I thought that was a very reasonable request, and I finally got around to creating just such a generic chart this week.

You can use this one to record practice time for stringed or wind instruments — or percussion or voice or spoons or any other instrument you might be wanting to practice.

Or switch back and forth if you’re just playing for pleasure and record musical practice of any kind on the same page.

The practice sheets are small — only half-sheet in size — and print two per page. You can use the boxes to record the number of minutes you practice each day, then tally each week’s practice time and record that number in the final column.

Or you can use the chart as a check list. Check each day you practice, whether that entails running through all your music or playing for a specified length of time. Once you’re finished, check off that day and use the total column at the end of each row to count up how many days you practiced that week.

Either way, I hope you’ll enjoy having a pretty record to track your practice time on whatever instrument you play. I’m grateful God gave us the gift of music and included so many verses in His Word reminding us to regularly make a joyful noise in praise to Him!
