At fourteen, Rachel has developed a pretty quick wit, which still sometimes catches us off-guard, since she’s usually so quiet. She loves to read, read, read, and also enjoys writing, drawing, working sudoku puzzles, and anything else that can be done with a pencil in hand.

She is very athletic and has a surprisingly competitive spirit. Rachel is also a disciplined and diligent worker — traits that came in handy this fall when she enrolled in dual credit classes at Tyler Junior College with Joseph and Rebekah, making her the youngest college student in our family to date. She held her own there, even when her (public speaking) assignments forced her outside of her comfort zone. So far, she’s maintained a 4.0 grade average. 🙂

Rachel has an incredible sense of balance. She holds the family record for the most trips back and forth across our slackline without falling (currently 33 1/2). You can see her in action in this video, taken on her 11th birthday:
