The Nomadic Professor World History Course

Several years back, a couple of my homeschooled students used the Nomadic Professor US History Course while preparing to take the American History CLEP (which they passed with flying colors). So when Timberdoodle asked if we’d be interested in trying out the new Nomadic Professor World History course, we jumped at the opportunity.

What to expect in Nomadic Professor World History
Nomadic Professor World History contains everything I loved about the Nomadic Professor American History course, and more:

1 – A detailed scope and sequence
The World History course is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers 4000 BC to 1300 AD, and Part 2 picks up in 1300 and continuous to the present.

2 – Informative maps and timelines
As with his other courses, the Nomadic Professor makes generous use of maps and timelines to help students visualize when and where the events being discussed originally took place.

3 – Audio lectures with transcripts
The course includes extensive reading material as well as audio lectures that can be listened to on the go.

4 – Quizlet flashcards and other study helps
Vocabulary lists and extensive flash card decks help students retain the information. They can use them online or copy material onto physical flashcards to further cement the information in their brains.

5 – Fuss-free grading
Regular quizzes, writing assignments, and handy grade tracker will help parents evaluate their student’s progress.

6 – Extensive bibliography
The lesson plans include extensive reading and related video lists for those who want to dive deeper into any of the material presented.

7 – Videos filmed on location
But probably my favorite feature of the Nomadic Professor World History course is the wealth of video content filmed on location.

The thing I love about homeschooling is our ability to travel and experience historical sites first hand. And by taking our trips off season, we often have the docent or tour guide all to ourselves and can ask as many questions as we like.

But the Nomadic Professor has visited countless locals we will likely never travel to on our own, and the videos he’s filmed during his stays make us feel like we’re right there with him, getting a one-on-one tour.

I can’t think of a more engaging way to learn than to see these places with your own eyes and to hear about their history first-hand.

It’s a terrific way to learn and really helps history come alive and gives greater context and meaning to the facts, dates, and statistics that normally comprise studies on the topic.

Do you have a student who would benefit from such an in-depth study of world history? Then you will definitely want to check into Nomadic Professor World History.

It is currently available for individual purchase or as part of Timberdoodle’s 12th Grade Curriculum Kit.
