Hi, there.
I hope I’m not being a bother, but my daughter, Dakota, wanted to reach out to you about your Choosing Curriculum page. It has links that we were able to explore and bookmark for our geography project. 🙂
During the school year, Dakota and I like to do fun mother/daughter projects. This is a great way to help her brush up on her social studies as well. 😉 Anywho! While googling for some more resources, my daughter found this geography resource. She was thinking that it’d be a valuable resource for your page. Do you mind adding it? I know she’d be delighted to make a valuable contribution, and maybe other kids will find it useful, too. 🙂
Looking forward to hearing back,
Mrs. Lowe
Dear Mrs. Lowe.
Please tell Dakota thank you for thinking of me. I appreciate her desire to make the website more useful to my readers!
I had never heard of Road Trip Geography before, but I tried it out after receiving your letter and agree that it deserves a place on my Choosing Curriculum page.
I love finding great online resources like this, full of free learning activities and printables. Some of the games are similar to the ones you’ll find on Sheppard Software (such as the US Map Quiz Game), but others are totally unique from anything I’ve seen before (like the printable Travel Book). These activities provide a fun way to augment your child’s geography studies.
So… I added the link you submitted to the Geography section of my recommended curriculum, right alongside some of our other favorite geography resources that have stood the test, including the following:
- US States and Capitals Songs
Eight very catchy songs that teach all the States and Capitals of the US in such a way (northern border, southern border, eastern border, and central states) that kids who learn the state names can easily identify them on a unlabeled map, as well. We pack this tape in the car for listening/ reviewing US geography on long road trips. - Sing Around the World
This volume of geography songs covers continents and oceans, plus all the countries of each geographical region. The tunes are fun and make learning easy. - Maps, Charts and Graphs
These workbooks teach map reading skills in a way my kids really enjoy. We’ve only used selected volumes, but I have a couple of boys who’d likely finish the entire set before it’s all said and done.
