WOW: From Dust to Dust

I love the look of freshly polished furniture, but am amazed at how briefly a good dusting job lasts.

Either my mother polished the furniture a lot more frequently than I realized growing up, or the dust just didn’t accumulate back then like it does now, because I never remember it building up quite so quickly in the home of my childhood.

And the truth is, it probably didn’t.

There were only four of us sharing my childhood home, and we were all out of the house most of the day.

There are ten people living in our house today, and most of us are at home 24/7.

Why does that matter?

Because a large percentage of household dust is composed of dead skin cells (some sources say 75-90%).

Ewww! That gives a whole new meaning to the verse we read in Genesis 3:19:

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

God made Adam from the dust of the earth, and when He says that we will return to dust, I normally think about that as something that will happen after I die.

In reality, going from dust to dust is a continual process, as well.

Think about that next time you are polishing furniture or sweeping up dust bunnies!

This week’s verse can be found in the sixth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:

Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first five sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:

And I’ve also uploaded a progress chart to help you keep track of which verses your child has already memorized (some of the verses listed are from sets of flashcards that will be published in the future).

May God honor your efforts to hide His Word in your heart!
