Word on Wednesday: Isaiah 35:5-6

My husband had the privilege of baptizing our youngest child last Sunday. It was a special time for all involved, a fact to which Doug alludes in the video:

Immediately before the baptism, the elders played a taped interview with Abigail in which they asked her about sin, about Jesus’ death on the cross, and about why she wished to be baptized. Her answer to that last question: “Because I gave God my heart, and I love Him.”

Abby’s putting her trust in Jesus is a direct answer to many, many prayers that Doug and I have prayed on her behalf over the years — just as we’ve done for all her siblings — beginning before they were ever born.

We firmly believe it would be better never to have been born than to spend eternity separated from God. And that is why the prayer that God would draw our children to faith from an early age has taken precedence over every other request.

Of course, if we had our druthers, all our children would be healthy, happy, and whole, as well — but those preferences pale in comparison to the well-being of their souls.

It is far more important to us that our children’s spiritual eyes are open than that their physical vision is 20/20. We’d rather their ears be attuned to God’s still, small voice than that they’d effectively transmit physical sound to the brain.

It is enough for us to know that there will be no sickness or disease in eternity. If it takes a physical infirmity this side of heaven to turn their hearts toward God, then so be it.

This week’s verse is Isaiah 35:5-6:

“Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like
a deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy.”

It can be found in the fifth set of our Scripture Memory Flashcards:

Plus, in case you missed them, here are links to the first four sets of flashcards and practice sheets, too:

And I’ve also uploaded a progress chart to help you keep track of which verses your child has already memorized (some of the verses listed are from sets of flashcards that will be published in the future).

May God honor your efforts to hide His Word in your heart!
