John Adams Quote Coloring Page

On this day, October 30th, 290 years ago, the second president of the United States was born. And to celebrate, I’m sharing the John Adams coloring page from my Quotes of the US Presidents: In Their Own Words.

John Adams Quote Coloring Page

It features John Adam’s wise words regarding our government:

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

John Adams

He was right. We are seeing the results even now of what happens when immoral and irreligious people are charged with abiding by, interpreting, or safeguarding the Constitution. And it isn’t pretty!

Adams had many other pithy things to say about philosophy, wisdom, and government. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • “The foundations of national morality must be laid in private families.”
  • “Among all the disappointments and perplexities which have fallen my share in life, nothing has contributed so much to support my mind as the choice blessing of a wife…”
  • “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
  • “Let us tenderly and kindly cherish therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.”
  • “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”
  • “The longer I live, the more I read, the more patiently I think, and the more anxiously I inquire, the less I seem to know…Do justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly. This is enough.”
  • “I must judge for myself, but how can I judge, how can any man judge, unless his mind has been opened and enlarged by reading.”
  • “To believe all men honest is folly. To believe none is something worse.”
