50 Best Broadway Tunes

50 Beautiful Broadway Tunes

Since National Broadway Musicals Day is September 29, I thought today would be the perfect time to share another of my 50 Things Lists. This one is dedicated to the 50 Best Broadway Tunes of all times (or, at least, 50 of my personal favorites).

50 Beautiful Broadway Tunes

I grew up watching musicals (on TV, not on Broadway) and have always loved them. In high school, I studied voice and performed many of the classics.

My husband and I even had some of these songs performed at our wedding. I came down the aisle to the wedding march from Sound of Music (minus the “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” lyrics). And a group of singers from the Dallas Symphony Chorus (of which I was a member at the time) sang “Climb Every Mountain” at one point during the ceremony.

My 50 Favorite Broadway Tunes

Here are the fifty show songs of which I am fondest (in no particular order):

Sometimes I love the catchy tune of a broadway song but am not very fond of the lyrics. In that case, I’ve been known to make up my own words to sing around the house. The altered songs I’ve sung most often include the following:

Do You Wanna Have a Baby

Sung to “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” from Frozen, this is a song I sung to my husband pretty routinely in the weeks and months following the movie’s release.

Just kidding! I’ve never had any problem telling my kids “no,” although I do try to say “yes” as often as I can! This song is a rewrite of Ado Annie’s solo from Oklahoma!

Here’s my version of the immensely popular “Let It Go” from Frozen — a much better alternative, I think, to an anthem that proclaims, “It’s real, I feel: No rules for me… I’m free!”

I love this wedding song from Fiddler on the Roof, exactly as it was originally written. I simply tweaked one verse a little to be more descriptive of Christian marriage.
