Polka Dot Flower Pots

The kids helped me paint a bunch of Polka Dot Flower Pots to put in a sunny window. We had make an assortment of these planters at our old house, but our current house has a much larger window over the kitchen sink, so we broke out the paint and brushes again to make a few more.

Supplies Needed for Making Polka Dot Flower Pots
- terra cotta flower pot and tray
- acrylic patio paint
- small flat paint brush
- pencil with new eraser

Instructions for Painting Pots
These bright, cheerful pots make for a quick and easy craft with a big, bold impact when they’re finished — especially if grouped together in every shade in the rainbow.

This time, we picked a bright red and royal blue for painting our pots.

Paint the bottom part of the pot in the color of your choice. Any acrylic paint will do, but patio paint seems especially durable and works well.

Once your base coat has dried, add a second coat if needed, then use a pencil eraser dipped in white paint to add evenly spaced polka dots all around the bottom portion of your flower pot.

It’s a quick project and hard to stop at just one, so feel free to paint other pots in other colors if you like. Group several pots together for a stronger visual impact.

Be sure to let the paint dry thoroughly on your polka dot flower pots before filling them with dirt and plants. Otherwise, the paint may peel when the terra cotta becomes moist.

These small pots are the perfect size for growing kitchen herbs, but if you travel a lot or have an especially sunny window, you may want to stick with succulents, which don’t have to be watered as frequently.
