Favorite Prayer Quotes

Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and power are such,
None can ever ask too much!
– John Newton –

Pray hardest when it is hardest to pray.
– Unknown –

Everything is needful that He sends.
Nothing is needful that He withholds.
– John Newton –

Sometimes, perhaps, you hear another pray with much freedom and fluency,
while you can hardly get out a few broken words.
Hence you are ready to accuse yourself and admire him,
as if the gliding of the key made it open the door better.
– William Gurnall –

Trouble and perplexity drive me to prayer,
and prayer drives away perplexity and trouble.
– Philip Melanchthon –

Nine-tenths of the difficulties in finding the Lord’s will are overcome
when our hearts are ready to do His will, whatever it may be.
– Anonymous –

I cannot tell why there should come to me
A thought of someone miles and years away,
In swift instance on the memory,
Unless there is a need that I should pray.

Perhaps just then my friend has fiercer fight,
A more appalling weakness, a decay
Of courage, darkness, some lost sense of right;
And so, in case he needs my prayers, I pray.
– Mrs. Jonathan Goforth –

Prayer is not the verbalization of your mouth, it is the cry of your heart.
– Unknown –

God is always within call, it is true; His ear is ever attentive to the cry of His child,
but we can never get to know Him if we use prayer as we use the telephone –
for a few words of hurried conversation. Intimacy requires development.
– E. M. Bounds –

Surely it ought not be true that we, who have power with God to obtain by prayer and faith
all needful grace, wisdom, and skill,
should be bad servants, bad tradesmen, bad masters.
– George Muller –

It is impossible for a believer, no matter what his experience,
to keep right with God if he will not take the trouble to spend time with God….
Spend plenty of time with God; let other things go, but don’t neglect Him.
– Oswald Chambers –

O Man, I beseech you, do not treat God’s promises as if they were curiosities for a museum;
but believe them and use them….
– Charles H. Spurgeon –

The divine pattern of prayer is to pray to the Father,
in the name of the Son,
with the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Secret

I met God in the morning
When the day was at its best,
And His Presence came like sunrise,
Like a glory within my breast.
All day long the Presence lingered,
All day long He stayed with me,
And we sailed in perfect calmness
O’er a very troubled sea.
Other ships were blown and battered,
Other ships were sore distressed,
But the winds that seemed to drive them
Brought to us a peace and rest.
Then I thought of other mornings
With a keen remorse of mind,
When I, too, had left the moorings
With His Presence left behind.
So I think I know the secret,
Learned from many a troubled day:
You must seek God in the morning
If you want him through the day.

– Author Unknown –

The more I pray, the more I feel my need of the Word.
The more I read God’s Word, the more I have to pray,
and the more power I have in prayer.
– Andrew Murray –

We should pray when we are in a praying mood,
for it would be sinful to neglect so fair an opportunity.
We should pray when we are not in a proper mood,
for it would be dangerous to remain in so unhealthy a condition.
– Charles Spurgeon –

Be definite with God, and He will be definite with you.
– Unknown –

God gives His best to those who let Him choose.
– Unknown –

If you only use prayer when you’re in trouble, you’re in trouble.
– Unknown –

Sometimes the worst thing God can do for us
is give us exactly what we think we want.
– Thomas C. Urrey –

Your problems shrink when you give them to the Lord.
– Rick Warren –

Prayer is the uplifting of the heart to God.
– Unknown –

Worry is a signal to me that I’m depending too much on myself
and not enough on God.
– Unknown –

The power of prayer in the life of an obedient Christian
can only be undermined by neglect.
– David Bently-Taylor –

Prayer works. Prayer is work. Prayer leads to work.
– Unknown –

If you desire anything for God’s glory, you should pray until you get it.
– George Muller –

If you leave the choice to God, God will give you His choice.
– Unknown –

We don’t have problems, we have opportunities for God to work.
– David Drake –

The secret of praying is praying in secret.
– Unknown –

The family altar will alter the family.
– Unknown –

When the outlook is bad, try looking up.
– Unknown –

Don’t put a question mark where God has put a period.
– Unknown –

God answers prayer in four ways:
No, not now.
No, I love you too much. Yes, I thought you’d never ask.
Yes, and much more.
– Unknown –

Trying times are times to try more faith.

I’m behind again… not on reading, but on posti I’m behind again… not on reading, but on posting the books as I finish them. My second read for the year was an audiobook by Robert and Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth called You Can Trust God to Write Your Story. I found it both enjoyable and encouraging. The authors take turns reading the book, detailing the stories of biblical, historical, and modern day believers and sharing the journey God has taken each of them through for their good and His glory. #flandersfamilyreads #godisgoodallthetime

Except the tree in our bedroom. I may just decide to keep that one up all year and switch out the ornaments to match the seasons: hearts for Valentine’s, birds, nests, and birdhouses for spring, stats and stripes for Independence Day — you get the idea.
