It&#8217;s US Constitution Day! That&#8217;s because on September 17, 1787, our nation&#8217;s founding fathers met to sign the document they had drafted in the preceding weeks of the Constitutional Convention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Constitutional_Convention_(United_States)\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><figure id=\"attachment_8717\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8717\" style=\"width: 1100px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Scene_at_the_Signing_of_the_Constitution_of_the_United_States-e1410992334714.jpg?resize=1100%2C708&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"[view source]\" width=\"1100\" height=\"708\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8717\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8717\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">[view source]<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Referencing the system of government outlined and established in this Constitution, Benjamin Franklin wrote that he was amazed &#8220;to find [it] approaching so near to perfection as it does; and I think it will astonish our enemies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And to the degree that our leaders have been willing to abide by the Constitution, I believe what Franklin said was true.<\/p>\n<p>But to abide by the Constitution, one needs to know the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why, when my husband was at the Texas State Republican Convention last sprint and spotted two beautiful little hardbound copies of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1557091056\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=1557091056&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=theflafamweb-20&#038;linkId=F4CNWB7V6UC2YJUD\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The U.S. Constitution<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=theflafamweb-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=1557091056\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1557094489\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=1557094489&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;tag=theflafamweb-20&#038;linkId=GH3BHONM6HVUEEUO\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Declaration of Independence<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=theflafamweb-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=1557094489\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/>, he brought both books home for me to use in teaching our children.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Free-Printable-for-Constitution-Day.png?resize=1100%2C792&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Free printable for Constitution Day\" width=\"1100\" height=\"792\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8714\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Free-Printable-for-Constitution-Day.png?w=550&amp;ssl=1 550w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Free-Printable-for-Constitution-Day.png?resize=300%2C215&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Free-Printable-for-Constitution-Day.png?resize=250%2C180&amp;ssl=1 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unbeknownst to him, we already owned both books. Great minds think alike!<\/p>\n<p>We think it&#8217;s important for our children to be familiar with the Constitution.
