Nanny wouldn&#8217;t let Doug slide the ring all the way onto my finger in this photo taken on the street in front of Taylor Brothers jewelry shop in Corpus Christi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She insisted he wait until we got back to their house for that, so he could propose good and proper, on bended knee in the living room, with her and Poppie looking on as witnesses and providing whatever coaching they deemed necessary (which wound up being much more than either of us expected). Ha!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Well, in honor of that special occasion (and all the precious memories I associate with it), today I&#8217;m sharing another of my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/tag\/5-things\/\">5 Things Lists<\/a>. I call this one my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/5-Things-that-Would-Make-Our-Marriage-Better.pdf\">5 Things That Would Make Our Marriage Better<\/a> printable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll undoubtedly notice the list is blank. That&#8217;s because every marriage is different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some couples, weekly date nights and long talks on the couch might improve their marriage dramatically. For others, taking up bowling or pickleball or enjoying a romantic weekend away once a quarter would make life together much better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, you fall into habits as a couple and only realize in retrospect what a powerful effect those practices had on your marriage. So go ahead and ask your spouse what 5 things would make his list going forward. Keep in mind that preferences can change over time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My husband used to feel loved when I&#8217;d make him bacon, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast. Now he prefers blueberries, nuts, and half an apple. So that&#8217;s what I fix for him every morning. And while I make his breakfast, he brews me a hug mug full of green tea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another thing on our 5 things-list these days? Taking long walks together after dinner. I&#8217;ve been walking at least a mile a day for the past few months, and more often than not, my husband walks with me.
