I am so thrilled to share with you the latest addition to my arsenal for entertaining\/ educating grandkids. It’s a kit called Stepping into Science<\/a>, and it is filled with (almost) everything you need to complete 29 simple and easy experiments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Included<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Many of the experiments can be done over and over again. The target age is 5-7, although I have younger grandkids and older children (including some of the grands’ parents) who were also fascinated by the proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Stepping<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For instance, in the unit on air currents and wind resistance, everybody wanted a chance to move the ball by blowing on the opposite side of a canister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The air whipped right around the curved surface and sent the ball rolling every time (but not so when we tried to do the same thing with the same width box)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Stepping<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

There is way more to do in this little kit than could be accomplished in a single sitting. So I’m glad the storage box is so sturdy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Planting<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

While many of the experiments take only a few minutes to complete, a few in the botany section require a little more patience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cress seeds included in the kit were extremely fast growing. They sprouted less than 24 hours after we planted them and were green and leafy enough to eat a couple days after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Taking<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It took a little longer before our plant clipping grew roots. But it happened eventually. Now this one is ready to plant in the dirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Instruction<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The 48-page instruction booklet included in the Stepping into Science<\/a> kit is filled with pictures and diagrams, making it fairly simple to follow, even for beginning readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cardboard pieces in the kit are thick and durable and can be used multiple times by multiple children. There’s a good variety of indoor and outdoor activities, so kids aren’t trapped at a table for excessive periods of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Stepping<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Even though I no longer have children of my own in the target age group, I’ve loved going through Stepping into Science<\/a> with my grandkids. But if you still have little ones at home, this kit would make especially appropriate for you. It gives youngsters a great introduction to science, whether you’re planning to homeschool them or want to augment what they’re learning in the classroom or are just looking for ways to keep them engaged during summer break.
