3 books I read in March<\/h2>\n

Anne of Green Gables<\/a> by L.M. Montgomery<\/h3>\n

\"Anne<\/a>Our family has been listening to an audio version of Anne of Green Gables<\/a> for the past two weeks. It came as no surprise that my girls have enjoyed this classic tale about a little red-headed orphan with a big imagination, but I\u2019ve been amazed at how my boys have taken to it, as well. <\/p>\n

They can undoubtedly relate to Anne\u2019s knack for getting into trouble, but part of their interest stems from the amazing job actress Kate Burton does reading. She uses such a variety of voices and affects that it seems as if the action is being played out before our very eyes. <\/p>\n

One of my guys told me, \u201cThere\u2019s no way I\u2019d ever have chosen to read this book myself, because the language is so flowery, but she reads with such expression, it\u2019s easy to follow and understand, so listening has been fun.\u201d <\/p>\n

If you are unfamiliar with Anne of Green Gables, I highly recommend this unabridged audio version. I bought our copy used for under $10. However, you may also want to check out the free downloadable versions (presented by other readers) available through LibriVox<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Overload Syndrome<\/a> by Richard Swensen<\/h3>\n

\"Overload<\/a>If your stress level skyrockets this time of year, if your calendar\u2019s over-committed, if the festivities leave you feeling frazzled, then this is the book for you. <\/p>\n

Subtitled \u201cLearning to Live within Your Limits\u2019, this book offers hope to the weary and worn. <\/p>\n

The author, who also wrote the equally helpful Margin<\/a>, as well as one of my husband\u2019s favorites, More Than Meets the Eye<\/a>, is a Christian physician who \u201cprovides practical life-changing prescriptions\u201d to the pervasive problem of spreading oneself too thin. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s something most of the moms (and dads and kids) I know do routinely. How about you?

For Young Women Only<\/a> by Shanti Feldhahn<\/h3>\n

\"For<\/a>I know Shaunti Feldhahn wrote this book to help young women decipher their boyfriends’ baffling behaviors, but as a mother of eight boys, I have found that it gives invaluable insight into what is going on inside the heads of my teenage and young adult sons, as well. <\/p>\n

I’ve long understood the importance of treating my husband with respect, thanks to Feldhahn’s earlier book, For Women Only<\/a>, Emerson Eggerichs’ Love & Respect<\/a>, and a willingness to accept God’s command to wives in Ephesians 5. <\/p>\n

However, For Young Women Only<\/a>\"\" served as reminder to me that a man’s deep desire to feel respected begins long before he takes a wife. Respect is a gift I should be giving to my sons as well as to my husband.<\/p>\n
