The new Timberdoodle catalog has all sorts of wonderful strategy games to hone your critical thinking skills, like the one my kids are helping me review this week: Paradux<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

The board and playing pieces are all made of polished wood. We like the fact Paradux<\/a> seems so heavy and durable.<\/p>\n\n\n

This 2-player game is a snap to set up and simple to play. Winning, though, is another matter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You start with all the pieces lining the edge of the board in alternating colors. The object is to get four of your pieces in a row, but you must move two adjacent pieces at a time — one of each color.<\/p>\n\n\n

We had to improvise a little on how to move corner pieces, as the instructions were not entirely clear on that matter. But once we’d agreed on how to handle it, we were able to proceed with a family tournament, which Gabriel won handily.<\/p>\n\n\n

If you have strategy game fans at your house, you may want to give Paradux<\/a> a try. [2026 UPDATE: Originally offered as part of their 11th grade curriculum kit<\/a>, this game is no longer available through Timberdoodle, but you can find it on Amazon — or browse the wide variety of strategy games Timberdoodle does still carry.]<\/p>\n\n\n
