We spent the past week in New Orleans, and I packed Timberdoodle’s new Cats & Boxes<\/a> to play on the road. It also came in handy keeping kids entertained when we arrived at our hotel an hour before check-in.<\/p>\n\n\n

The object of the game is to rearrange the tiled pieces from their starting position until all the cats are in the boxes. Sounds easy? It’s trickier than you might expect.<\/p>\n\n\n

First of all, the cats must all stay in their starting position. Only the game tile pieces can move. But you may only move one piece at a time, and it must be placed back on the board before attempting to move another.<\/p>\n\n\n

The kids took turns playing it at the hotel, and I didn’t get to try my hand at it until several days later when we were all packed back in the car and heading home.<\/p>\n\n\n

After solving all the starter-level puzzles with only a little difficulty, I moved on up to the next level. There are a total of 60 different puzzles, each sequential level more challenging than the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since I have a lot of experience working thinking-skill puzzles, I thought I might be able to finish all sixty in the six hours it took us to drive home. Ha ha ha ha ha! I didn’t even come close! Not that I’m giving up, mind you. I’m only resigning myself to the fact it’s going to take me a bit longer than I anticipated to solve them all.<\/p>\n\n\n
