It is chockfull of practical assignments designed to give students word-smithing experience they’ll be able to repeatedly apply to real-world situations for the rest of their lives: writing thank you notes, penning opinion pieces, recording recipes…<\/p>\n\n\n

… submitting lab reports, composing journal entries, writing product reviews, leaving comments online, and a bunch of other fun tasks. I love this book!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Folks who know me as an author, blogger, newspaper columnist, or co-op composition teacher might assume I’ve always enjoyed writing. But that’s not true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing was my absolute least favorite subject back when I was in school. Getting a five-paragraph essay out of me as a high schooler when was like pulling teeth. And don’t even get me started on term papers! Given the chose between ten pages of math problems or two paragraphs of writing, I would’ve chosen the math every time.<\/p>\n\n\n

But while I definitely do still use math every day, I use writing even more. And I can’t help but think I would’ve learned to enjoy that process much earlier if I’d had a book like Weekly Real-World Writing<\/a> that demonstrated the practicality of polishing and perfecting this incredibly useful real-world skill.<\/p>\n\n\n
