One of the books we read over Christmas break was Stealing Home<\/a>, a graphic novel about the Japanese internment camps that were established in North America during World War 2. <\/p>\n

\"Stealing<\/p>\n

Timberdoodle sent me the book to review a few months ago. I read it first, then passed it along to my history-loving son to read as well.<\/p>\n

\"Daniel<\/p>\n

Although the book is written for children (and is part of Timberdoodle’s Sixth Grade Curriculum Kit<\/a>), it is told well enough that it certainly held my interest. <\/p>\n

\"Stealing<\/p>\n

My 17-year-old liked it, too. He’s been reviewing 19th and 20th century US history in preparation for a CLEP exam<\/a> next week. <\/p>\n

\"Stealing<\/p>\n

And it is far more enjoyable to brush up on historical events by reading “living books” like biographies, historical fiction, firsthand accounts, and even graphic novels and children’s books, rather than pouring over dry, boring textbooks for hours on end.<\/p>\n

\"Daniel<\/p>\n

Although I normally don’t care for graphic novels, some of my kids love them. And after reading Stealing Home<\/a>, I better understand the appeal of this literary form.<\/p>\n

\"Stealing<\/p>\n

This story starts with baseball and ends with baseball. I appreciated the way the authors told the tale from a child’s perspective. It was very poignant. I also liked the fact the book includes extra details in the end material, including a list of additional resources on the topic: books, movies, websites, even a video game.<\/p>\n

\"Daniel<\/p>\n
