This weekend, my 2-year-old granddaughter came to visit and helped me review a delightfully simple Visual Perception Board Book Collection I recently got from Timberdoodle. [2026 UPDATE: While Timberdoodle no longer carries this product, you can still find both titles — Animals<\/a> and Hello!<\/a> — on Amazon]<\/p>\n\n\n

When a sudden rainstorm drenched our dry clothes during a family visit to the lake this morning, Oma and Opa opted to bring baby home with us while the rest of our kids braved the storm and proceeded as planned with biking, kayaking, and paddle-boarding<\/a>. These sweet little board books helped keep the youngest entertained until time for naps.<\/p>\n\n\n

The books are designed for even younger babies than Charlie. They can even be introduced to newborns. The high-contrast illustrations are specifically designed to help develop their visual perception.<\/p>\n\n\n

Although the pictures are predominately black and white, I like the fact that the artist adds small pops of color to each page. And Charlie really enjoyed the little peek-through windows that allowed details from one picture to show through in the next.<\/p>\n\n\n

The text for these board books is understandably sparse, but those tiny touches made it easy to interact while reading through them. Charlie eagerly pointed to the red bird, the yellow bee, the blue butterfly (and more!) when asked to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n

I’m happy to make space for this pair of books on my bookshelf — and I’m looking forward to reading them with even younger grandkids in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n
