\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

It always feels a little bit like Christmas when Timberdoodle releases their new catalog each spring, because it’s packed with all sorts of goodies kids love. And as a member of their blog team, I get to review books, curriculum packages, art kits, and strategy games (like the one I’m doing today — Quixo<\/a>), all for free.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

Quixo<\/a> is a strategy game that can be played by 2 or 4 players. Quick to set up, quick to learn, and reasonably quick to play — so it definitely lives up to its name.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

The object of the game is to get five of your marks (Xs or Os) in a row — and to prevent your opponent from doing the same.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

During play, you may take either a blank cube or one with your own mark from the periphery of the board, and replace it — with your mark showing — by sliding it in from the opposite end of the row or either corner. Thus, the game board shifts with every move, and you’ve got to think ahead to be able to line up your pieces.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

Gabriel and I played the first game, and he beat me soundly. As did everyone else I played. I’m going to blame it on my being distracted by taking photos for this review.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

Daniel was a natural, though, and remained undefeated for most of the afternoon. Gabbers and Rachel eventually bested him, but not for long.<\/p>\n

\"Quixo\"<\/p>\n

I like the fact this board game is so simple, the pieces are of such high quality, and it appeals to a broad range of ages. And I love seeing my kids engaged with one another, carefully thinking through strategies, and enjoying a little good-natured competition! <\/p>\n
