One of my favorite things about spring is the fact Timberdoodle releases their new catalog in May. And it is always full of fun and fabulous new finds. Like the sweet Baby Babbles Collection<\/a> of board books I’m reviewing this week.<\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

Thankfully, I had a crew of the cutest little helpers one could hope for to assist me with my review: 17-month-old Evelyn, 3-year-old Nathan, and their Aunt Abby, who was babysitting them at the time.<\/p>\n

\"Enjoying<\/p>\n

Both the children loved the bright colors and cheerful illustrations. Nathan listened attentively as Abby read to him, but Evelyn spent half of storytime flipping through the second book on her own.<\/p>\n

\"Reading<\/p>\n

I appreciated the fact that each book told a story. So, even though the the collection focuses on first words — such as book, bee, bird, baby in the Bb! book and cat, car, and coat in the Ck! book — those words are strung together by a simplified plot.<\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

But the biggest draw by far was the interactive elements of the books. Nathan’s favorite was the shiny mirror embedded in one of the pages. Can you see his silly face in the reflection?<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

My favorite was the Busy Bee book-inside-the-book. It had four pages and told a story-within-a-story all its own!<\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

If you have kids (or grandkids!) in this age range, I imagine they’d enjoy the Baby Babbles Collection<\/a>, too. <\/p>\n

\"Reading<\/p>\n

Our little Evelyn, who was the squirmiest during story time, stuck with the books the longest once Abby finished reading. She enjoyed having them all to herself and slid carts, opened doors, and lifted flaps to her heart’s content<\/p>\n

\"Perfect<\/p>\n

Evelyn especially loved playing peek-a-boo with the baby on the final page. She’d pull up the blanket with a sweet little giggle and wave hello, again and again.<\/p>\n

\"Baby<\/p>\n

My only caution with this set is that a few of the flaps were slightly stuck on first reading. They could tear if not handled properly, so I’d recommend an adult go through the book and carefully open each door and crease each fold before handing it over to a baby or toddler. After that, the little ones should be able to easily do the activity on each page themselves.<\/p>\n
