Our family celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday<\/a> (also known as Read Across America Day) yesterday with some fun free Cat in the Hat printables I designed for the occasion. I meant to share these yesterday, but got so busy partying with my kids and grandkids that I quite forgot. So if you like them, you may want to pin this post for next year. <\/p>\n

PLEASE NOTE: The solutions for each activity is on page 2 of the associated PDF. If you’re printing more than one copy, be sure to select page 1 before hitting print, so you don’t get multiple copies of the answer key.<\/p>\n

Can You Count the Fish?<\/h2>\n

For the younger crowd, we thad a simple fish counting activity sheet<\/a>. <\/p>\n

We gave them markers and let them do this activity at the kitchen table while snacking on goldfish crackers. Then we did a little fishing of our own with homemade “poles” equipped with magnets instead of hooks which the kids used to pick up paper-clipped fish cut from card stock. <\/p>\n

Spot What’s Not the Same<\/h2>\n

This game was a hit with all ages as we raced to see who would be first to find all 16 differences. As we finished, we yelled out “Thing 1,” “Thing 2,” “Thing 3,” all the way down to “Thing 8” and “Thing 9!”<\/p>\n

As with the first game, the solutions are on page 2 of this printable, so you won’t want to print multiple copies of that page. (And no fair peeking at the answer key early).<\/p>\n

Cat in the Hat Word Search<\/h2>\n

Our littlest family members forewent this activity sheet, but the older kids and adults loved it. Naturally, we competed to see who would be first finished in this race, too. Interestingly (but not surprisingly), the boys dominated in the visual spot-the-difference game, but the girls ruled in the more literary word find.<\/p>\n
