Timberdoodle sent me another big box of fun new products to try out recently. So I’m planning to post one review every two weeks until I’m done, starting with today’s Genius Star<\/a> write up. My kids were more than happy to give this one a test run with me.<\/p>\n

\"Gabriel<\/p>\n

Genius Star can be played with one or two players. The object of the game is simple: Race to see who can fit all eleven colored pieces on their respective board first. <\/p>\n

\"racing<\/p>\n

Of course, this is easier said than done. Especially since you must first roll the dice and place seven triangular blockers on the board in the spaces that correspond to the numbers rolled. Given the fact there are more than 165,000 different combinations, the board changes every time you play.<\/p>\n

\"Genius<\/p>\n

The real geniuses? The people who invented this game, since every single one of those blocker combinations has a workable solution. It’s just a matter of finding it. Plus, you get bonus points if your solution includes the two blue pieces side-by-side, so that they form a gold star (see example below).<\/p>\n

\"Genius<\/p>\n

Our family normally has more than two people interested in playing any given game. Fortunately, each round of Genius Star goes pretty quickly, so it’s a simple matter of letting a new challenger play the winner of each round. <\/p>\n

\"Abby<\/p>\n

This critical thinking game is simple enough that younger kids can play (it’s recommended for ages 8 and up), but is simultaneously challenging enough for adults to enjoy playing, as well. I confess to having had a hard time waiting for my own turn to challenge the winner. <\/p>\n

Genius Star<\/a> is available through Timberdoodle as a stand alone product. It is also included in Timberdoodle’s 5th Grade Curriculum Kit<\/a>. So check it out<\/p>\n
