National Neighborhood Day is the third Sunday in September. That’s today! So I thought it would be a great day to share my brand new Love Your Neighbor Coloring Page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This page features part of the passage recorded in Mark 12:29-31<\/a>. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus replied,<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the most important: \u2018Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.\u2019 The second is this: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.<\/strong>\u2019 No other commandment is greater than these.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

Can you imagine a world where everyone lived by these injunctions? Where every neighborhood was filled with people who treat others the way they’d want to be treated? With folks who put their neighbors’ interests ahead of their own?<\/p>\n

Mother Theresa once said, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” And, indeed, that is a great starting place. We must begin where we are, then spread out from there. Isn’t that the pattern Jesus gave in Acts 1:8<\/a>?<\/p>\n

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The disciples were to share the love of Christ in their own neighborhood before taking it to the next town. They were to live out the gospel at home before exporting it to the ends of the earth. The light of Christ was to shine through them first to their own communities and then to other countries.<\/p>\n

Does God expect any less from us today? How are you doing at selflessly loving the people under your own roof? Are you being intentional about how you relate to the people next door? Across the street? Down the block? Can the people around you tell by your words and actions that you love and value them?<\/p>\n

This should be our starting point, yet it is only a starting point. In the parable of the good Samaritan, Jesus makes it clear that the commandment to love our neighbor extends much further than the boundaries of our apartment building or block or subdivision. It includes many, many more than just the handful of individuals in closest proximity to us.<\/p>\n

How transformative would it be for believers across the globe to take these concepts to heart? To truly love God and love others. To put all that means into practice every moment of every day. To “be the change we want to see in the world.”<\/p>\n
