Did you know July 9 is National Sugar Cookie Day<\/strong>? That makes it the perfect time to bake a batch of pretty cookies to decorate with my kids. I already know what recipe to use. My friend Janet and I have hosted several wedding showers together this spring and summer. And she’s made a batch of these quick, no-crumble sugar cookies for every one of them. Aren’t they magnificent<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

\"Quick,<\/p>\n

The great thing is, they taste just as good as they look.<\/strong> They’ve been a big hit with the guests for every event. And Janet keeps telling everybody they’re super easy to make, so I finally asked her to send me the recipe.<\/p>\n

She did, and when I found the same recipe online<\/a>, I decided to share it with my readers:<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/h2>\n

2 sticks unsalted butter (at room temperature)
\n2 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
\n1 cup granulated sugar
\n1 large egg
\n1\/2 teaspoon almond extract
\n1 teaspoon vanilla extract
\n1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
\n3 cups all-purpose flour
\n1 1\/2 teaspoons baking powder
\n1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/p>\n

To make our wedding shower version<\/strong>, you’ll also need heart-shaped cookie cutters<\/a> in various sizes. And you may also want those lovely edible pearls<\/a> and silvery glitter sprinkles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you want to write on your cookies<\/strong> (like my co-hostess did on the ones pictured above), you can use this border icing recipe<\/a> to do so. I’m planning to make a few batches of brightly-colored flood icing<\/a>, as well, for the cookies I decorate with my kids.<\/p>\n
