Can you believe our summer break is already halfway over<\/strong>? A lot of folks have asked me whether our family has any trips planned this summer.<\/p>\n

The answer is yes and no. We took a short cruise in May<\/strong> to celebrate our four graduates (not these four — they were just along for the ride):<\/p>\n

But since then, we have been sticking pretty close to home<\/strong>. There are a lot of fun things to do in Tyler<\/a>, which we’ve recently revisited. And we’ve also taken a couple of day trips to Dallas:<\/p>\n

However, the majority of Doug’s partners need to take their family vacations in June and July while their kids are out of school<\/strong>, so Doug normally just works through the summer and lets his colleagues divide the those ten weeks amongst themselves.<\/p>\n

That being said, we do have a fairly lengthy family road trip in the works<\/strong> which will take us up through Tennessee, DC, NYC, Boston, and Maine. Although we’ll be taking that trip while it is still technically<\/em> summer, we won’t head out until many of our friends and neighbors are already back in school. The sightseeing stops are much less crowded that way <\/strong>— another great advantage of homeschooling flexibility and off-season travel.<\/p>\n

That trip is in its final planning stages<\/strong> (I’ve written before about how I put together the travel itineraries<\/a> for our road trips, so I won’t recap all that info here).<\/p>\n

I’ve already mapped out the route and made [most of] our housing reservations. Now I’m planning which activities we’ll do at each stop<\/strong>. Then I’ll plan meals. Then I’ll start packing. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

As for sightseeing, we like to do a mix of things we’ve done previously and really enjoyed (like the Smithsonian Museums and Capitol building in Washington, DC, the Stanton Island Ferry and Statue of Liberty in New York City, and the USS Constitution in Boston) as well as new things we’ve never tried before — which for this trip will hopefully include as many of the following as we can pack in:
