If you&#8217;re not already familiar with it, you can hear it in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2uzK3VwzraM\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the video<\/a> embedded below:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"674.6\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2uzK3VwzraM?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The songwriter&#8217;s discovered one of the most important principles of parenting: For good or for bad, <strong>kids learn much more by <em>watching<\/em> their parents&#8217; interactions than by <em>listening<\/em> to their instructions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Values, as they say, are more easily &#8220;caught&#8221; than &#8220;taught.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I was reminded of that fact earlier this month when my children were getting ready for Father&#8217;s Day. I&#8217;d given them a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/free-fathers-day-printables\/\">5 Things I Love about My Dad<\/a> printable to fill out for their dad, and<strong> I was touched to read what one of my sons wrote<\/strong> in the #1 slot:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/What-I-Love-about-My-Dad.jpg?resize=575%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"What I Love about My Dad - my son&#039;s #1 answer\" width=\"575\" height=\"426\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/What-I-Love-about-My-Dad.jpg?w=575&amp;ssl=1 575w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/What-I-Love-about-My-Dad.jpg?resize=300%2C222&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/What-I-Love-about-My-Dad.jpg?resize=250%2C185&amp;ssl=1 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that terrific? When asked to list the things he admires and appreciates most in his father, <strong>his #1 answer is the fact that DAD LOVES MOM.<\/strong> That fact is obvious, even to the youngest members of our family. There is no question in their minds that that much is true.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what would top my child&#8217;s list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flandersfamily.info\/web\/2019\/05\/08\/free-mothers-day-printables\/\">things he likes about his mother<\/a>, but I&#8217;m doing my best to <strong>make sure he knows that Dad&#8217;s love is fully and enthusiastically reciprocated by Mom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After all, <strong>our children are watching us<\/strong>.
