For today’s Word on Wednesday post, we’re memorizing the words of our humble and homeless Savior, who — in contrast to the wild animals His Father attends to so lovingly — hadn’t even a place to lay his head.<\/p>\n

In reference to those wild animal homes, sometimes God provides those directly. Sometimes He uses people to accomplish the task. I’m grateful He does the former, but also love when I get to be involved in the latter. <\/p>\n

About fifteen feet up in the tree right next to our back porch hangs a squirrel box.<\/strong> We nailed it up there a couple of years ago when the squirrels my daughters raised from babies<\/a> were ready to release.<\/p>\n

The weather was nippy when they came of age, and our little girl squirrel moved in immediately and stayed all winter<\/strong>, long enough to raise a litter of her own.<\/p>\n

\"Miss<\/p>\n

Once those babies were weaned and warm weather returned, however, Miss Suzy moved out. She evidently preferred more open-air surroundings <\/strong>where she could enjoy a nice breeze on sultry summer evenings.<\/p>\n

Well, ever since the temperatures dropped in January, our squirrel box has again been occupied. The current resident looks a lot like Miss Suzy, although we can’t tell for sure. Either way, it’s gratifying to think that our handiwork has supplied our squirrel a warm place to snuggle<\/strong> during the cold winter months.<\/p>\n

We’re happy to have provided a home for her, but we’re even more happy that God has provided a home for us<\/strong>. That’s more than He had when He was here:<\/p>\n

“Jesus said to him, ‘The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.\u201d (Matthew 8:20<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I think of that sometimes when I see the homeless in our cities: our Lord himself was once homeless, as well<\/strong>, without so much as a place to rest his head. To think that He left all the comforts of heaven to walk such a lonely road makes the sacrifice seem all the greater.
\n
\n Aren’t we blessed to have a such a Savior?<\/strong> Jesus willingly gave up His home for a time, so that those who put their trust in Him might share it with Him through all eternity!<\/p>\n
