Assembly Instructions for our Advent Scripture Chain<\/h2>\n

To get started, first print out the following Scripture verses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

This printable requires three pieces of paper. I used colored card stock for the chain pictured, but regular copy paper will work, as well. You can make all the loops the same color or, for a more festive looking chain, alternated two or three colors.<\/p>\n

Single-colored chain<\/h3>\n

Either printable version will work for making a one-colored chain. Just use the same color to print all three sheets of paper, cut the strips apart, and glue or tape loops together.<\/p>\n

Two-colored chain<\/h3>\n

Making a two-colored chain is a little more involved, but this method is what is pictured in the photos on this post, so you can easily follow along with those. I used red and green card stock<\/strong> and printed a complete set in each color. <\/p>\n

Next, you will need to cut the strips apart. I used a large paper trimmer<\/a> for this step, But scissors will work, too! If you have little ones, this activity will provide lots of good practice cutting along the dotted lines!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since I printed two sets of Scripture verses, we were able to alternate colors<\/strong> in our chain. Doesn’t that look pretty?<\/p>\n

This also enabled us to make two complete chains. One chain to keep. And another to give to the grandkids<\/strong>, so they can count down the days till Christmas at their house, too.<\/p>\n

Three-colored chain<\/h3>\n

Several years after I posted my original printable, a reader wrote to request I shuffle the order a bit so she could print a set of scripture verses in three different colors (one for each page) and have the colors alternate when she glued her scripture chain together. So I obliged.<\/p>\n

Regardless which version you make (one-, two-, or three-colored), you will need to assemble all the verses in the correct order. The chain for “Christmas Day” goes at the top. (Affix it to the Nativity header). Then attach the number of “days left to Christmas” in order from there, beginning with 1, then 2, 3, 4, etc. <\/p>\n

We used a stapler to join the ends of our links together<\/strong> — it’s fast and easy and makes no mess. But double-sided tape or a drop of school glue will work, too.<\/p>\n

Once your chain is assembled, hang it up (we posted it on our bulletin board)! Then remove one link a day and read the Scripture together<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The little graphic on the side of each strip will help you keep track of how many days are left until Jesus birthday (24 and counting)!<\/p>\n
