\nMy mother worked outside the home during most of my growing-up years, and I remember that the first thing she liked to do when she came home every evening was to change out of her dress clothes into a house robe<\/strong>. She had several to choose from, but they were all soft and warm and comfortable.<\/p>\n

The robes suited her well, because my mother also has a soft, warm, comfortable personality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As Christians, shouldn’t that be true of all of us? <\/strong>I think so. And that’s why our family is learning the following Bible verse this week:<\/p>\n

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Compassion. Kindness. Humility. Gentleness. Patience.<\/strong> Scripture commands us to clothe ourselves in these soft, warm, tender traits.<\/p>\n

Really, they should be like a second skin to us.<\/strong> We should feel uncomfortable<\/em> without them.<\/p>\n

As much as we might like to spend our days lounging around the house in a soft, warm bathrobe, cultural conventions dictate that we wear something more appropriate when appearing in public.<\/p>\n

But those soft, warm qualities of kindness and compassion, gentleness, patience and humility? They are appropriate in every circumstance.<\/strong> We can (and should) wear them 24-7!<\/p>\n
