Word on Wednesday: Proverbs 25:18

Our family has always enjoyed a competitive round of Putt-Putt golf, although we normally save that activity for vacation.

We love playing semi-challenging courses with lots of waterfalls and pirate ships and caves and bridges.

Sometimes our littlest guys get to play free, but it means sporting a plastic club instead of a real one.

That’s actually a good thing, especially considering the fact that our little ones have been known to swing for the ball without first checking behind them, and the rest of us have occasionally gotten smacked in the belly or the head or some other such sensitive area as a result.

Even when it happens by accident, it still hurts. Just think how much more damage would be done if the little guys were swinging for us intentionally!

The Bible says our words can be used like a club. If we aren’t careful, what we say can hurt others, even if we don’t mean to.

But when we intentionally say hurtful or untrue things about others (whether to their face or behind their backs), it’s like we are using our words as a weapon, and we can do irreparable damage.

This week’s verse is Proverbs 25:18:

“Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is one who gives false testimony against a neighbor.”
