The Flanders Family Update - Winter 2009

'Tis the season to be jolly! Christians should be the most joyful folk on earth. Christ gives us a hope that far outweighs all the economic downturns and swine flu epidemics and liberal politicians that life sends our way. As we celebrate His birth again this season, it is our prayer that those who know Jesus will cling to Him and that those who do not will come to faith without delay.

Check out what's new by following the links below:

UPDATES - We've uploaded this year's Christmas letter for those of you who would like to read it but didn't receive a hard copy.

MUSIC - I've added a link so that visitors can listen to Bethany's songs straight from our site. I've also posted a few acapella hymns I recorded myself awhile back. I'm hoping David will teach me how to use "Garage Band" once finals are over, so that I can record the children singing a few of our favorite Christmas carols, as well. Check back in a week or two for that.

VIDEOS - In keeping with the spirit of the season, we've added links to a couple of Christmas video clips your family might enjoy. They're short (only two or three minutes each), but sweet.

BOOKS - Need a gift idea for your favorite bibliophile? Check out the new titles our family has been reading lately. We're hoping by next Christmas to have our own books published and on this list.

ORGANIZATION - December is a great time to declutter. Whip your closets and drawers into shape before family and friends start to gather in your home for the holidays. With our super-easy storage boxes, it's a snap to bring order to caotic cabinets and closets. And they're just as pretty as they are practical.

CRAFTS - Let your little ones lend a hand with the decorating this year by making candy kiss chains, Christmas heart ornaments, and package toppers. We plan to expand our in the future, so check back later for more fun ideas.

TRADITIONS - Looking for other simple ways to celebrate the season? Back by popular demand, it's the Flanders Family Countdown to Christmas. Print a copy and let your kids take turns picking activities that most appeal to them, or make a list of your own, together!

RESTAURANTS - We've updated our list of local restaurants where kids eat free (or cheap). Family Night at Johnny Carino's is still one of the best deals in town: all-you-can eat soup or salad for 99¢ and half-priced family-sized platters. Our crew gets so filled up on salad and bread that two of these platters will feed all twelve of us, with food to spare (which we take home in a box and eat for lunch the next day).

CHARTS - We've added a number line option to our arithmetic drills for younger students and a template for creating a homeschool high school transcript for older ones. Also, you'll now find calendars in this section for 2010 and 2011 (for advance advance planning)!

FREEBIE - We have several copies of Michael and Debi Pearl's classic To Train Up a Child that we'd love to give away, a little Christmas gift from our family to yours. We'll send a free copy to the first ten responders, so email us if you would like one. The free copy will have the original hand-drawn cover, admittedly not as professional-looking as the current edtion, but with the same great text on the inside!

GOSPEL - The very first Christmas gift is still the very best gift of all — salvation by grace through faith in the risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Click here to read the good tidings of the season afresh, and if you have never accepted this priceless gift, we pray you'll do so today!

A very merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
