The Flanders Family Update - Summer 2008
Three cheers for summer vacation! Our family just returned from a ten-day trip to South Carolina. In addition to twelve matching souvenir T-shirts, we brought back lots of great family memories: kayaking through the marshes, biking along the beach, playing tennis, Putt-Putt,and "Marco Polo" with the kids. Even now that we're home, we continue to enjoy the slower pace this season brings, using our break from school to catch up on pleasure reading, clean out closets, putter in the flowerbeds... and update our family website.

TRAVEL TIPS - For those of you who've wondered how we can travel with so many children but still come home feeling rested, I've added a detailed description of the method I use to plan and pack for all our trips, as well as hints for staying organized on the road and at the hotel.
NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES - If you haven't already joined our e-mail list, now you can see what you've been missing. These brief quarterly updates contain family news as well as links to the most recent additions to our website.
RUN FOR AUTISM - As soon as David learned that the Chicago Marathon accepts 16 year-old entrants, he and Doug registered and began training for it. They are running to benefit the Organization for Autism Research. Did you know that the prevalence of Autism has skyrocketed in the last 30 years and that it now affects one out of every 150 children born? If you would like to donate to Doug and David's fundraising campaign, click here. To learn more about the Organization for Autism Research, visit their website.
FAVORITE LINKS - We've added a page of links to some of our favorite sites for educational games, organizational resources, and on-line encouragement for parents. We hope these sites will be as big a blessing to your family as they've been to ours.
KIDS EAT FREE - At the request of friends and neighbors, we've included a list of restaurants in our area where kids can eat free, plus links to similar sites for folks who don't live in Tyler.
CHRISTMAS UPDATES - This section is now complete! We finished uploading every Chirstmas letter we've ever mailed, plus one we didn't. Check out the all-new "Flanders Family 1987 Update" to read how it all began....
Well, that's all for now. We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!
God bless and keep you all!
